Brick Lane

I actually quite enjoyed this film…I got to see it this afternoon before going to work.

A young Bangladeshi woman, Nazneem, arrives in 1980s London, leaving behind her beloved sister and home, for an arranged marriage and a new life. Trapped within the four walls of her flat in East London, and in a loveless marriage with the middle aged Chanu, she fears her soul is quietly dying. Her sister Hasina, meanwhile, continues to live a carefree life back in Bangladesh, stumbling from one adventure to the next. Nazneen struggles to accept her lifestyle, and keeps her head down in spite of life’s blows, but she soon discovers that life cannot be avoided - and is forced to confront it the day that the hotheaded young Karim comes knocking at her door.

A person’s a person, no matter how small

I really loved this film

One day, Horton the elephant hears a cry from help coming from a speck of dust. Even though he can’t see anyone on the speck, he decides to help it. As it turns out, the speck of dust is home to the Whos, who live in their city of Whoville. Horton agrees to help protect the Whos and their home, but this gives him nothing but torment from his neighbors, who refuse to believe that anything could survive on the speck. Still, Horton stands by the motto that, “After all, a person is a person, no matter how small.”

Oli’s 1st Birthday

This morning I went to meet up with my friends Paul & Jane to celebrate their son Oli’s first birthday.

The weather has been glorious (in the late 30s) so it was great to sit out in the sunshine with friends, catch up and celebrate. Paul also got his residency, so that was another big reason to celebrate.

A new start

I had my last morning at rehab this morning. It was over 36c so we didn’t have any excercises, they just talked to me about my goals and how I can maintain them. I will miss going there.

I was excited to have an interview in the afternoon at one of the biggest and best Patisserie companies in Melbourne as a part time Pastry Chef and luckily for me I was successful with the position, so I start at the end of March.

My evening at work was pretty funny, I couldn’t stop myself from smiling about my new job. I’m very excited.

Can you solve the puzzle?

I sort of found Vantage Point a bit…hmmm how can I put this nicely…American and tacky…but it was ok.

Two Secret Service agents are assigned to protect the President at a landmark summit on the global war on terror. When the President is shot moments after his arrival, chaos ensues and the disparate lives of an American tourist, a television news producer and the two Secret Service agents assigned to protect the President collide.

It is only after we follow the event from each person’s perspective that the terrifying truth behind the assassination attempt is revealed.

I was the only one laughing at this in the cinema

Black Balloon

I went to see the Black Balloon this morning…I can’t help but feel if Toni Collette hadn’t have been in it, it would have been a movie released straight to DVD.

Not to say I hated it bit it was very average. Luke Ford, who played the autistic kid was excellent though.

When Thomas (Rhys Wakefield) and his family move to a new home and he has to start at a new school, all he wants is to fit in.

When his pregnant mother (Toni Collette) has to take things easy, his father Simon (Erik Thomson) puts him in charge of his autistic older brother Charlie (Luke Ford).

Thomas, with the help of his new girlfriend Jackie (Gemma Ward), faces his biggest challenge yet. Charlie’s unusual antics take Thomas on an emotional journey that causes his pent-up frustrations about his brother to pour out - in a story that is funny, confronting, and ultimately heart-warming.

The Black Balloon is a story about fitting in, discovering love and accepting your family.

I’ll call you on Monday and we’ll go shopping. Anything we can’t buy, we’ll make. Anything we can’t make, we’ll steal!

Recently I bought a cheap copy of ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’…another one of my secret shames!

I forgot what a great film it was…there is something about Sissy Spacek and Beverly D’Angelo…their versions of the songs are better that the originals…I love that they sang all the tracks…fantastic!

…and blown sugar today…
