I was told that check out was 12 noon, so I took my time in the morning checking out of the hotel. I had told Patrick that I would collect him at about 10am but was running a little late. Hannah called and said she was on her way into Perth and that she could meet earlier if that was convenient for us.
I drove along to collect Patrick. He had been staying in a backpackers near the Perth Oval. We took our time and after speaking to Hannah again we were instructed to meet here at a Shell service station on the Great Hwy North. Me and Patrick (stupid as we are) didn’t check a map and saw a major highway and presumed because it was going north was the Great Northern Highway…instead we drove about 80km’s in along the wrong highway….oops!!
We drove back to Perth and drove across the city to get on the Great Eastern Hwy and then onto the Great Northern Hwy. There was nothing great about either of the Hwy’s…they were similar to our A roads. We got to Swan Valley and we eventually found the Shell Station and collected Hannah, she seems very nice and headed back on the open road.
We headed back over to the Brand Hwy and took that to the Nambung National Park, which is famous for the Pinnacles. When we got there we found it was a drive through loop that we had to take through this rock formation…they looked pretty amazing! It started to rain so we jumped back into the car…there was an amazing rainbow that we saw too.
After the Pinnacles we headed back onto the Brand Hwy and headed up to Geraldton. We found the YHA, parked outside and checked in. We managed to get a three room dorm and we were given sheets etc. Once we were settled we went out to find some food…we were really hungry. We found an Irish Bar (with a really rude British girl), got some food and a drink and then called it a night.
We are heading to Kalbarri National Park tomorrow.
